Icon7 Want a 275/35r15 Street tire

So last week I sent PM to a mod asking if it was ok to post here but I never heard back. I have posted on other forums without any fuss so if this is not acceptable here then I apologize.

I run an Blown LS swapped Miata. Myself and others in the v8 miata community would like to see a wider option in 15" wheel size so I have reached out to manufacturers and have a petition going now to show interest. I was told the Honda community would have interest in this also so here I am. If you would like to see a tire like this brought to market, that you can run on the track and drive home, please sign our petition.

The car is a driver/occasional track car. I can't run a full on race tire and expect it to make it down my gravel road, not give me trouble in the occasional wet road, or really be cost effective. I have a spare set of hoosiers for when the conditions are correct, but the point of this option is to have a stronger option for street use.

My friend is in the same camp as you and I still don't understand the concept.

You're still going to have a car that weighs like 2500 pounds wet with a 275 wide tire so regardless of the tread pattern it will likely get very little traction in wet conditions, so is it really a strong option for street use?

I think it's a niche market, but with the ridiculous Global Time Attack rules and such I think it will become more popular.

Honda guys have been running street cars with turbos for years without an option like this. If you want traction you get a slick...

I'm going to assume you googled and are probably the creator of the change.org petition for a 275/35/15 street tire.

I don't know anyone here that can wave a magic wand and get a tire made. I think your best bet might me moving to a 17 inch rim.

I'm not looking for a high performer in wet conditions. My car doesn't go out in rain on purpose, however it does occasionally get caught in it. In case you haven't ever experienced a slick on a rear wheel drive car in wet conditions, especially right after it starts raining, safety can be a legitimate concern at any speed. I also agree that with the power to weight ratio I have, I will not ever have great traction. What I am hoping for is just simply all I can get! The wet road reference is just for unique situations, but the gravel road reference is for me every time it leaves my shop.

I see what you're saying, but I'm gonna have say it's a no from me dog. Kaan knows whassup.

Also, I'm not sure what kind of gravel you have but we drive around in paddocks with gravel and runoff with gravel at places like Summit Point with Slicks and we're fine

Yes I am the creator, while it may be a fools errand, I know that if no one ever asks, then it certainly will never become reality.

Owning both a Miata and a Honda, it is somewhat frustrating to see how the Honda community always lags behind on basically every performance trend that becomes the norm years later. Whereas the Miata community is damn near always at the forefront. If you dig back, there's threads on here saying it's stupid to put 15x9's and 225's on the front of your Honda. Now you have people like Andy Hollis providing verified lap times showing these cars going faster with bigass meat up front. 245/10's aren't that crazy these days so would 275/11's be that insane in a few years?

For anyone saying "why not just run a slick?" There's obviously plenty of people with highish hp Hondas that can use a 275 200tw up front for some street-driving mountain fun. I figure there's plenty of FI K swap people making similar power to your average LS Miata. There's also more and more 200TW street tire racing classes popping up these days that can use them. GTA, SCCA SOLO, and Lemons all have 200TW classes.

For anyone saying to go up to 17's, there's obviously all kinds of disadvantages to running a 25" tall tire in either car. Any Miata at racey ride heights is going to slam a tire that tall into the shock tower. And Hondas seem to have even more stuff to rub. Not to mention, it takes longer to get a 25" tall tire up to temp over a 23".

The main downside to a 275 is that it's a modify to fit size. Whether it's a Miata, Honda, E30, 86, MR2, or whatever other small car people race on 15's. You're going to have to do some pulling on fenders and bashing in firewalls to make them fit most things. And most people that are used to doing that usually are driving dedicated race-prepped cars in classes that run Hoosiers.

I don't think the Honda community has lagged behind the Miata community. That's a subjective statement.

Also most Honda owners don't have an interest in driving. The Miata is one of the most raced production cars in the world, so yeah, improvements will be made (https://www.roadandtrack.com/motorsp...es-in-america/).

If you guys can get the tire made, then more power to you. We were asked if there was interest in the road race and autocross forum and we said naw.

I signed the petition. We have a street tire Time Trial series going on in NASA Tx region right now. These would help.
