Default so my nitto neogens have had it...

well after a couple spirited canyon runs the past week, my tires have officially called it quits. on the way down the mtn this last time, i hear 'whack whack whack' sounds almost like a violent flat... but all the other symptoms aren't there.

i get out, my fender lining is hanging a piece off, so i tear it completely off and start go go again... only to hear the noise again. so after my additional 10 yard travel, i pull over and feel around the tire, and part of the damn thing is hanging off. i took the rest of the drive at about 35 (gruelling, considering my normal pace) and got home OK without any damage to the car.

now its obvious i drove these a bit past their tread wear mark, but do tires normally fall apart in chunks? none of my other tires are showing the metal after inspection, so i'm not quite sure. and notice how it tore a perfect line out and how its dangling there.

pics (i860 cam phone, shitty quality but you can see the aftermath)...

Aren't the neogens the tires that have 3 different tire composites for camber wear? Like the inside is harder than the middle and the middle is harder than the outside.

Either way, glad you didn't blow the tire and have more damage.

Would that have anything to do with a bad alignment or toe settings?

Just trying to rule out "other" factors as this seems unusual for a tire to do this, plus that's a lot of uneven wear, especially on the inside of the tire.

Have you checked your toe settings? Maybe they are off making the inside wear out faster than the rest of the tire.

i can imagine my neglect to get an alignment for the life of these tires and even after doing my whole suspension swap (5 lug, full coils) could've caused this. i'm just wierded out cause its only 1 tire. the rest seem to have even wear on them. and i rotated 2 times during the life of the tires.

when i get my new tires mounted/balanced, i'm going to get an alignment. just gotta find a shop that specializes in that local to palm springs since that's where the car is now.

Hopefully that cures the odd wear. Just get everything checked out. Maybe you hit a weird bump a while back and it messed up the alignment on that wheel?

Good luck!

yeah, no alignment for the life of the tires... so yeah, i neglected it. the toe seems OK, w/ the eye-alignment shop in my garage, but who knows. like i said i'm going to find some new tires (check for another thread by me in this forum) and then an alignment.

From what I see, it looks like it has about a degree negative in it with a little toe on the side.

For as worn as the rest of the tire is, you got your money out of it.
