Milling the backs of low-offset-wheels
I have a low offset wheel on the front of my car. I have rs's that are +24 offset. Instead of going through the hassle of dis assembling my wheels and getting a lower offset face, someone had suggested to me to take the wheels to a machine shop and get the backs of the face milled down to raise the offset. Does anyone know if this can be safely done? Im sure it can be done but where would the line be drawn between safe and just pain stupid?
How much can be safely removed depends entirely on the design of the wheel, the material used, what forging process (if any) was used, and several other factors.
If you want the back of the face shaved to change the offset, find a shop that can do such work that you really trust, and let them decide what is and is not an acceptable amount of material to remove. Trust a professional over a random internet poster. I know I certainly don't know enough to even try and guess how much could be removed...

I went to a place called russel machine shop in gardena ca. I have done it a few times and the most I have gone was 5mm and that was on a wheel w/ a pretty decent sized hub.
I had a friend do it and afterwards the rims wouldn't clear his stock calipers so make sure you know exactly what you're getting into afterward. I'm not saying it would happen to you but just make sure you cover all the bases.
