Have a spare question for a tire guru..
I am building a teardrop trailer and want a tall skinny tire. A spare tire such as 145/80-17 or similar size would be perfect. Now Im going against two schools of thought, #1 using a car tire on a trailer and 2, using a spare as a normal tire.... I have thought about using a motorcycle tire as well but know even less about them.
My argument is the spare tire is rated for 1900lbs per tire and the trailer gross will be 800lbs. Is there any reason I couldn't get 5-10K highway miles out of a pair?

Yes, the problem with the spare tires is that they are only rated to have a lifespan of 50 miles at 50 mph or under. Does it have to be a 17" wheel? Or are you open to other possibilities?
Something in ST205/75-14 would be the same diameter as that 145/80-17 and there are some dedicated trailer tires available in that size.
Other option would be ST205/75-15 which is about an inch taller and you may have an easier time finding 15" trailer wheels for it.

I have also looked at the BMW i3 wheel tire 155/70-19s, with adapters and rims are pricey but more of the look I want ...... this project is less practical and more show but HT is the only place I could think of asking, thanks for the food for thought
