car is squeeling
lately my car has been making a squeeling noise, sounds like its coming from my front left tire.. or somewhere in that area. it doesnt happen all the time. when im in second gear it'll happen and when i stop it goes away. any one else have this problem or would anyone happen to know what this is? thanks
Have you checked the thickness of your brake pads? Worn brake pads that are ready for replacement would be my first and most likely guess. Most brake pads have a metal tab that comes into contact with the rotor when the pad needs replacing. And yes, when this happens, they sometimes squeal when you're not on the brakes, and stop squealing when you use the breaks.
If you don't know how to check the thickness of the pads, there are instructions here for an NSX that involve just looking through the spokes of your wheels with a flashlight, without removing the wheels. That technique can also be used on many other cars, too. (It's more thorough to check them by removing the wheel, but a visual inspection can often show that the pads need replacing without having to take the wheels off.)
Or, if you have a friend who's handy with cars, he can show you how.
