wire doesnt fed.
whats up guys, im pretty new to welding, and ive basically just been welding pieces of metal to learn. My dad has a 'powermig' 110v welder that ive been messing with and it need a new spool of wire. The paperwork says to use .023-.030 wire so i bought .030 and it didnt work worth a ****. So i ended up going and getting .023 wire and it works fine on the speed setting for 0-50%. Above there its starts feeding sloppy and above probably 65% it will feed like an inch of wire every 5-7 sec. I have the clamp thing tightened all the way down and tried putting the wire in both grooves on the feeder.
Is there a way to just buy a newer feeder for it or does it sound like im doing something wrong or what? Any help would be a great help. thanks, josh

I hate to say it, but you just need to read the instructions for that unit! I have a Pro Mig 135 and it needs certain adjustments for it to run good. If you dont have the instruction you can download them on the Lincoln website.

i have all the paperwork that came with it. Pretty much it says loosen the nut part, feed new wire through, make sure its on the groove, tighten the nut. thats about it.
Two things come to mind;
Did you replace the tip for the larger wire? They come in different sizes to match the wire. Does it feed wire with the tip removed?
Is it possible that the "pinch rollers" need to be swapped for the larger wire? I know that my Miller has two different grooves on the rollers and that one has "ridges" to help grip the wire.
Is the alignment correct as the rollers push the wire down the tube? Maybe it's close enough for the smaller wire, but causes problems with the larger wire.
Wes.

i went out and bought the .023 (what was originally in it) so it all would work but abover 65% you can watch the feeder spin but it not push the wire, like it has no traction or something.
