Default welding a block please HELP

ok gotta hole from grinding the block a bit too much for a turbo. it is the part where you grind if you are running a blox manifold with a t3/t4, but except the grinder slipped and cut thru the block..

tried maxed out power on a lincoln 185, AC, FULL PENETRATION, etc etc and still the ALU sticks will not want to bond onto the block.. IS THE BLOCK OF ANOTHER TYPE OF ALUMINum??? help!!!!

Although I typically don't reccomend welding up a block, I understand that it could save you a lot of money if you get it to work well....

Sounds like the problem is that you don't have enough power with your welding machine.

One option you could try is to use DC polarity with 100% helium gas. It will weld hotter than argon will. If this won't do it, you will not be able to with your machine.

You may have to practice the DC welding though. You do it with a sharp tungsten like you would carbon or stainless. The wire will want to ball up on you a lot at first also, but practice will help.

honda aluminium suck; won't say that is very bad alu. but easier to weld new alu.
Try to clean it first with acetone, let it dry and preheat the bloc; much better!

yeah true that honda al sucks... can hardly make the al stick melt onto the block even when i clean it good. GRIND ACETONE and AL cleaner from weld shop and then i weld, but still it is difficult... anyhow, i've welded it as best i can plus a bit of QuickSteel incase of any pin holes... BTW the area that the hole was made is where the oil drains from the head back into the oil pan...so basically the oil passage... so definitely no major pressure~~~ cool!!
