haven't posted anything up in a while. just finished this setup. i gotta say, it is one of the most interesting setups i've done. this car will be seeing a lot of track/steet time, including the one lap america event the first week of may.

 

pretty cool, nice work. is the turbo as angled as it appears in the pictures? thats a lot of tubing!

Very sweet looking setup, few questions. on the exhuast manifold why didnt you make it a straight shot to the side without the twists and add a merge collector?
Also wont the turbo outperform the supercharger once it gets spooling up?

the way i see it is that the supercharger will provide the low end hp.trq but then will choke the motor when the turbo gets going. I'm proprobly wrong so correct me i dont know how about twin charged setups

have you thought about building a setup to bypass the blower once the turbo has spooled up? thats what we did in an effort to keep the AIT's down. We ran the blower fast enough to make around 17psi at lower rpms, so once the turbo was up, the charger was bypassed which takes away most of the parasitic losses and keeps the ait's down

 

isn't a bypass the only correct way to run a twin charged setup? if not the blower will just heat the air as you said.

i back purge anything that is 16g... so all downpipes, and in this instance, the manifold as well. i just don't on schedule 10 unless there is a gap and i know i'm going to get full penetration. having the cap plugs makes it pretty quick and easy to do instead of having to tape up the ends or something. they stand up to the heat pretty good.

Thanks for the comments guys. This was built for my car and Aaron has been amazing at accommodating all my requests. And on the things that I just let him do his way, I find turns out above and beyond my expectations.

To quickly answer some questions about the twincharge and bypass ideas... There is no bypass. The blower is a positive displacement pump so whatever pressure the air is entering it, it's going to multiply it. The idea with running a two stage setup is that both the super and the turbo can be run more efficiently to reduce AIT. We'll be spinning the M45 slower with peak speed around 12000rpms. And the GT30R is sized appropriately for a 2.4L. With the SC, the turbo essentially thinks it's hooked up to a 2.4L rather than the 1.6 that it is. Now the SC efficiency isn't all that great to start with and it is likely true that at higher rpms, the system would still have higher AIT than if the turbo was working by itself. The problem with that is for our time attack events, we need a much more broad power band than a single big turbo can provide in this small displacement. Running a smaller turbo like a GT28 would give us the low end we would need but at peak power it too would be losing out on effeciency (read higher AIT). This is a compromise that gives us the best of a broad powerband and efficiency at peak power production (where we spend most of the time), and also allows for room to grow. I am expecting over 400hp peak at 7500rpms with 80% peak torque by 3500rpms. Would like to have about 330whp on pump gas.

Should be hitting the dyno by April 16th and will post numbers when we have them. Looking for a conservative tune on pump gas with about 330whp. My sleeved block is coming in a little late so not the time to be risking anything just for some big numbers to braig about.

Weight and weight distribution are major concerns of mine for the racing we do. Compared to the original header and Apexi catback exhaust, the new setup from head flange to tip (including turbo and wastegate) only adds 9 lbs.

That's so amazing, I want to do the same with my jrsc'd/lht itr motor, can you guys figure out how to fab a manifold for a b series in a 98'' integra chasis? and know which turbo would work right? i would pay top dollar $$ pm if thats something you might be interested in doing, so its just got the jrsc installed as it should and the turbo as it should and it just works together when you tune the motor in? if its that simple id love to try and look into doing a twin charged b series setup for churches to tune if you guys can help me in the right direction if not good luck and thats some awesome welding and fabrication on the ex. manifold and down pipe! I too look to tune my lht/supercharged itr motor i built around the 16th as well, i originally wanted to do a twin charged setup but ended up going a whole different path cause i had no support gl.
