Personally I'd be a bit leary. At my former workplace we had a CMM and any temp/humidity changes could affect the calibration of the thing. It was always in a climate controlled room. I suppose though if the object being measured, and the CMM are guarenteed to be on the same plane, then things should be ok, but I'm still leary.

Yea, It says its accurate to .0006" which is far more accurate than what I would need. The stationary CMM we have is huge and takes forever to calibrate it each time you use it.

It's an electronic arm to do all of your evil bidding without feeling guilty about it.

define manual? like you move the arm yourself?

we made up software to figure out frame twist, rake, trail, etc in bike frames and such and all we do is find the point, click the pointer and basically create planes to find out those assigned values

We have one of those at work as well as a bigass stationary unit. Send me an IM with your phone number and I can have the CMM operator give you a call and tell you about it if you'd like.

We have a couple of different CMM machines here at work. Our most versatile arm is a Faro Gold Arm it is awesome for the stuff we do here and more.

http://www.faro.com

Look at company/customers and that will pretty much tell you how good the arm is.
