Default Oil pan Fitting weld

Here is a drain fitting that I tried to weld to my oilpan, I used a century 125gs flux core welder

and the inside, looks like it melted some

the fitting is a galvanized steel barbed fitting with pipe thread on the other end, so after I used a 3/4" hole saw bit I just screwed it in my oilpan, it was pretty secure. Now my question is how good or bad is my weld? should I go over it with some JB weld? weld inside too?

You do know the fumes from that can do you some pretty bad harm.

Throw away that flux core wire if you plan to weld stuff to sheet metal. Buy/rent a bottle of gas.

it will take more than that. You will have to covert your flux core welder to use gas. ie you need a gas solenoid. I highly doubt that weld will hold oil. Expect it to start leaking very soon.

Your best bet is to just cut it off and start over with a new fitting and a new weld. If you try to go over that crap nothing good will come of it.

PS. JB weld probably will leak as well.

Depends on the flux core welder. Many of them out there now (besides the HF flux and what not) already come with everything to hook up the gas. All you need to do is buy a regulator, buy/rent a tank, get a spool or wire and flip the polarity.

That "might" hold. i'd throw a quick layer of JBweld on it. JB weld, done properly, will not leak. I've used it on ~8 setups, most of which have been around for a few years. None have leaked.

there is your problem.

sand to bare metal then acetone. I would do that over from the beginning if I were you.

You need to get that JB weld off the inside of the pan. If any of it falls off in will get in the oil and the sucker will ether suck it up or clog it.
