i've started my engine bay, thanks for the motivation.
im stripping the paint tomorrow and im going to be using evercoat everglas todo the filling, i dont really have the resources to lay fiberglass down.
the only thing is i have an em1 and the drivers side upper mount is a stamped piece of ****, has all sorts of tabs and extrusions... i dont know how im gonna smooth it out... probably tack metal over all of the dips, weld, smooth, apply filler

wantboost- i'd use a smaller grit before the high build filler primer, a filler primer will easily fill 40-80 grit and it will be a lot easier to sand down everything with a lower grit, then go to a higher grit for blocking the primer. evercoat is what i plan to use for my body filler, i've heard only great things about them. I'm just curious what brand paints/clears you guys are using?
MOTOR IS IN...... kinda i have one motor mount and a jack holding it in i need some new mounts that i thought i still had lying around i guess i was wrong but here are some pics aneyways.
transmission before

stuff to strip the old paint off it and repint it

and after

i was told by my guy that evercoat was soso and to use marsons premium... its like 30 a gallon, but im not sure
i was leaning towards evercoat everglass, which is more expensive but my guy says marsons is better... im going to buy it tomorrow so input would be greatly appreciated.

im gonna weld it shut... very little body filler for me hopefully.... because of my brake and wiring setup my whole firewall will be one smooth piece of metal.... im just going to make a template as an exact copy of the firewall. cut it out in sheet metal and then weld it to the existing firewall
Wow, that is sick.
My car is a SFWD drag car that I'm building for next season... so I don't need to go so overboard.
I'm still curious to know why people are using fiberglass + welding. And why not just weld using sheetmetal + filler/putty. I don't see how this combination would be prone to cracking anymore than glass would be...?

yea, but the fire wall is ugly
yea, but the fire wall is ugly
but dont forget all the stuff that is mounted to the firewall on the inside of the car and i really think that a flat sheet of metal wont look as good it would be to plain

nothing mounts to my firewall.... nothing. brake master cylinder, clutch cylinder are all inside the car as well as wiring... only thing visible in the engine bay is the motor, motor mounts, etc. the heater core is coming out, etc. so nothing will bolt from the enginebay to the firewall
