Default Custom Bolt-in bar?

A guy I work with does a lot of metal work and he's going to teach me MIG. I want to make a bolt in Bar, not a full cage, for my car. At this point I'm doing solo II and want to get into Solo I, so I need a bar. My main question is how do the bolt-in's work? I've seen them for sale at different places. I mean do you have to reinforce the bolt point in the floorboard? It's a daily, not a dedicated race car so I still want to keep the interior mostly intact. Is it even worth going for a bolt in or should we just weld a plate or box like I've seen in a few posts here and weld the bar onto that?

Any comments/pics/whatever is appreciated

That gives me an idea of what I'm looking at, but I'd still rather fab my own out of cr-mo.
