Default Could this be easily welded??? (my N1 muffler)

I have hit a couple bumps with my muffler being so low. And I recently checked the muffler and this is what I see.

BTW it's an Apex'i N1 catback system....here u go

Could a muffler shop just weld this up easily? Thanks guys.

That looks like a really easy patch job... however they may try to sell you on a new muffler... which... depending on their work and how clean the weld may just be a better idea... specially seeings that there is all thoes fractures up towards the top and at the base.. etc. Plus welding on that area might burn up alot of the fibre glass

Ouch, that looks like rust. That probably could be patched, but by the time you are done paying for it you more than likely could have purchased a new muffler.

The thin rusty metal will probably need to be cut out and be replaced with new material.

unless the muffler shop is really good at brazing i doutb it. that areas usually REALLY REALLY REALLY thin steel. i tried to mig weld a resonator on the lowest setting and i still burned through.

Actually, some of that epoxy/fiberglass exhaust repair stuff would probably be good and cost $5. Since it's on the muffler, it wouldn't get THAT hot.

I have a similar problem with a cheap-*** header I bought for my 77 Celica (getting hard to find headers for that era Celica) and the friggin' collector is rusted out. I may be ghetto and wrap it, because I'd have to cut it all apart to reweld it, and then I might as well buy a new collector, which is getting close to the price of a whole header, again :-P

that thing is rusted out, I wouldn't bother welding it as its just going to crack else where + I bet the glass inside is already burnt up so it must be loud.

Also see where the resonator is exposed that means if you close up the cracks then the gas is going to bounce off the can as theres no more fiberglass around it. It will sound horrible.

the rust at the top of the muffler tells you its time to replace it. But if you are attached to it for some reason... cut the muffler of the car then trim the pipe. replace the bad section on the rear of the muffler with a similar thickness metal. use a hole saw to re-cut the mounting hole and weld the muffler back in. then again you could just go to an auto parts store and replace the muffler for a lot less effort and time.
