Obviously, but it's nice to see that they are trying to save it rather than watch it burn. This specific forum is about the only reason I poke around on HT anymore, mostly to check out 9bells and Toxics threads. If no explanation was given I would assume there wasn't much reason for me to return.

Oh C'mon, you and i both know this forum wasnt going to burn. If so its the members of this site who have no patience for issues being resolved. Toxics thread was closed for 2 days (count it, 1, 2) twooo days. No big deal right? I feel as if the mods deserve an apology.

The conclusion is this. For now each thread will be evaluated on a case by case basis. If it appears as though the thread is nothing more than a thinly disguised sales thread, it will be closed. If it's a legitimate thread merely showcasing a users talents, then it can stay open.

That is no better or different then the existing moderation prior to you jumping in. That is highly dissapointing as you won't get many back with such interprative rules.

Now that you've seen the reasons things are the way they are. Can I ask if you have a better solution?

Sure. As previously posted a week ago, and I would expand this logic by defining the people who would need to pay for advertising as anyone who brands the pictures/product they are posting. If you are showing product with no branding, and non-commercial name/no forum link then you are basically posting as a hobbyist even if you are a shop owner or someone in the business.

yes big deal. that cuts his picture posting in half, so he can only post 20 pics a day instead of 40, of course those extra 20 being the same photos as the first 20.

I agree, our local forums have a rate of around 300 annually. this is an Okay solution. i believe that caomplaints should be made directly on the forum by the vendors. examples of said wrongdoing wih pics or links.

I will stick around, I have never had a problem on this forum besides some other people, but I dont let 4-5 people persuade my decision about the whole forum, this forum has so much more to offer.

I give mad props to clayton for admitting he may of made a mistake, which takes alot to say to people on this forum (even when he was just doing his job). And now he is doing all he can do to try and keep you people over here. He is trying to keep people that dont pay any money! lol

I am not nut swinging on Clayton, I would say he and I have been "Friends" since I was 16 and started my prelude build. But its a shame that everybody only sees negative things, and not one person recognizes the positives he is doing.

;-)

Realistically if your a business and posting pics to the consumer public its advertising whichever way you want to look @ it. Most likely all those posting pics are doing so in order to gain futher business wether Honda is your market or not people come here for the large exposure this forum offers.

This is nothing new for this forum and im actually suprised it lasted this long a few years back this type fo thing wasnt allowed period. EvoM these days is far worse then this forum, they do not even allow you to register if using a business as username or a business e-mail. Im not taking sides of who is right or wrong here but ultimately it comes down to both parties are looking and need to generate revenue in order to continue opeating. Business these days is not cheap and the problem is the people sneaking under the radar refusing or not wanting to pay typical overhead a business generates which ultimately hurts the market industry and hurts those operating legitly and by the rules.

The gripe i have about previously being a sponsor is once you stop sponsoring the forum they lock you account vs removing your sponsor title thus forcing you to create a new username/account and starting over.

This is a fabrication forum. By definition, its purpose is to exhibit parts that have been fabricated, and discuss methods by which the reader can learn about, practice, or improve his knowledge base and skills.

This does not occur with the blind leading the blind. People come here only because they can see, read, and learn how to do something they are interested in better than they could if they went elsewhere. That it why it is so critical for this kind of forum to be a place where top notch fabricators who are willing to share high quality work and instructions on how to do it participate. Without those contributors, this forum is a waste of time.

Internet Brands sells advertising on these sites to people who are attracted by the content. I am unlikely to every drive to Alberta to have 9bells create an exhaust system for me, or to Montreal for Agtronics to work on my car. I could say the same for almost all of the great contributors on this forum. I really enjoy seeing their work, and appreciate their contributions. They get nothing from my participation, nor any expectation that they will benefit financially because I read their posts or look at their work.

For the most part, these folks spend their own time and effort to contribute here, without the expectation that they will be getting any real "advertising" benefit. They do it because they are proud of their work, have an audience that appreciates how hard it is to make something that looks like that, and have peers here who press each other to do better and better.

It's stupid and short sighted to drive them away with demands for payment. That would be like asking a baseball team to pay to play in front of the crowd that paid to get into a stadium. The audience is attracted by the content, not the other way around. Without the top notch content from experienced contributors, there's no reason for any of us to come to this forum...

If the pictures are of car parts, that's to be expected. Why would a fabricator take the time to make a non-car part just to show off his welding and fabrication capabilities? That makes no sense...

I hope the owners and moderators see the light, and quickly, or the content will dwindle and the quality will, too, and then the traffic will plummet. When that happens, the advertisors and/or sponsors will have no incentive to pay anything for content here, since there will be no audience to reach...

i think people are getting way too upset about something that by this day and age is pretty well understood by most internet and forum savy users.

i will still be reading and posting to the same extent i always have and i think others should too. crying about it just makes you look silly.

I don't disagree w/ what your saying @ all, i think its just a very fine line a forum moderator has to play to justify what the intent is. Clearly the forum wants the traffic but @ the same time they also need the sponsors to feed the income to keep it operating.

Ultimately every business owner wants to get their work out there and viewed but they also have to realize this doesn't typically come free of charge. You cant sell/advertise on Ebay, Google, Amazon, etc for free they all charge a % or fee, its just part of business.

The threads such as "post your best welds" and thus of that nature i think is where work should be displayed but when you get business owners making their own threads w/ their business name titled to it is where the fine line comes in to play.

Im a business owner myself and was long time sponsor of the forum. It came to the point for me that it just was no longer profitable to sponsor the forum. From a stand point as is i personally would not sponsor if they allowed me to just make my own thread displaying all the work. SO dont take this the wrong way but everyone just has to see both sides as a business entity.

It seems crazy to me that this isn't being seriously addressed. This forum has gone from 100 to 0 in less then two weeks. It's like a ghost town in here. Is this the intended result?

Whats the pointing of owning a forum that doesn't get traffic - or does the traffic from this section just not matter?

I'm not here to **** on the mods or the admin - you are doing your jobs, thats expected. But owners - take a look at the cause and effect of your corporate bull ****.

the "owners" have rights to too many sites that we all know. so i would not expect too much from them as they are about the advertisement banner and paid advertyising on the site...

Glad to see this starting to get resolved.

I was thinking, damn, these people have helped me so much. I wanted to start a fab thread to show my progression. Just been collecting images, but I'd hate to take the time just to see it taken down. Its got my logos here and there, but I own zero jigs.

Speak with the community team (Clayton), and a resolution to this can be found. It's a rule for a reason, but exceptions can be made.

Completely irrelevant now. This sub forum is dead. All the real content is posted elsewhere. Way to squander a valuable resource.

I thought Clayton had overturned the issue. What is the reason for people to leave? What can be done to accommodate them?

Honestly, if you look at the posting history of this forum, it has gone in ebbs and flows. Sometimes it was booming, sometimes it was dead.

I have, and continue to apologize for what took place here, but It happened for a reason, and I have now come up with a working solution. It will be announced sometime in the next few days. I just hope that people can find it within themselves to post again.
