Default closed threads?

seriously? its pretty obvious most of the people posting pics of their fab work either have a shop of their own or work for a shop that may not be a sponsor on here, so are we going to be prohibited from posting pics of our work on here completely? theres gotta be a better way around this...

i didnt see toxic pushing his wares on here...

I didnt post jack about any parts or services being sold, nothing I posted had any logos, hell, some of it wasnt even car related, I also have nothing in my sig or even a avatar, yet my thread got locked for advertising. So, what forum do we use now, cause I dont see this as a fabrication forum if you cant post pictures of welding.

This forum is the property of internet brands. They are in the business of selling forum advertising - at a *very* premium price for the medium. If their paying client reports a thread to be an ad, whether it is or isn't, who do you think they are going to side with? It would be bad business to ignore a paying customer's complaint.

Now on the other hand - forums require content - lots of it, preferably from 3rd parties that did not cost them anything. So if shop owners didn't post their projects and their work, nobody would read this forum anyway and nobody would want to advertise - at least not specifically for this forum. Thus you get the current state of things.

The best solution would be to reduce forum advertising rates - specifically just for this forum, to a more reasonable rate that shops could afford without breaking their marketing budget (how many fab shops even have marketing budgets??) so they could continue to show off their work without being violated!

I wanna know why we were singled out, someone must have thrown a dart at a map and it landed on Houston and me and Collin paid the price. Just so I'm not crazy, did anyone see anything advertising a product or service on my thread?

I pm'ed Clayton but no response, I'm sure I'm going to be told to pay $300 to advertise for imaginary products and services that I've been offering.

I basically started welding and fabricating because of everything I read on here, I'm finally posting my work for others to see and offering advise only to be shut down lol

Last time I clicked to get to this sub forum I had to click a link that said technical forums, I guess that doesn't mean technical like welding tips and tricks, more like, technical about what you can and cannot post.

this is exactly what i was thinking......... and no i didnt see anything in collins last couple of pages of his thread as advertising nor in anti lags. how come the other 10 personal fab threads that are active didnt get locked? i can see it now........ im gonna have to delete my link in my sig to my fab thread. i guess its a good thing i didnt start one in here or i would have been disapointed.

$300 would be manageable for many here. The last time I checked it was almost 3 times that for the basic level forum marketing package.

I don't mean to seem cheap - far from it and we believe in the need for it - we spent a little over 140k last year on marketing alone. But a grand a month here if you arent directly targeting the larger h-t market, won't ever pay for itself. We conducted over 2 years of testing on this forum before IB bought it when it was far more affordable. It was a wash at best. Shops already know about other shops, they arent here to buy, so it's almost pointless.

Shops come here to talk to other shops.

I just can't see paying because I have nothing to sell on here, the only car stuff I deal with is EVO Xs and R35 GTRs and we already are set up on those forums, this forum was just used for learning and teaching, making ideas, inspiration, etc

And this type of stuff is why i don't post on here anymore. It's laughable what they try to charge here for advertising also.

I didnt realize it was that expensive... Proves my point though why would toxic buy in here to sell evo products.

I was shocked as well. Considering most privately owned forums are $350 for a YEAR. For that kind of money you can put 2-3 1/4 page adds monthly in nationally published magazines provided you negotiate on their line cards (like you should be!)
