Default Brazing?

I was thinking of the best way to do my oil return on my setup. is it possible to braze a brass barb to my aluminum oil pan? (99 civic assuming its aluminum) if yes, what filler or method should i do?

i am not certain that the oil pan is aluminum, but my first turbo build we brazed a female brass fitting on the oil pan. if you could just find someone who can tig weld a fitting on there, itd be best, but yes you can braze on the oil pan.

I think there is a metallurgical problem with brazing on aluminum. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

if your pan is aluminum (i think only d16y8's had aluminum pans, could be wrong though it's been a while since i've owned a honda) it's thick enough to thread and epoxy a fitting in with no issues.
if you can find an aluminum fitting, you could try tigging it to the pan, hopefully you're able to get the pan clean enough to make a good weld.

if the pan is steel, weld a bung in.

Well my 96 Hx has an aluminum pan and so do jdm 3 stage engines. Also the Hx engine is a d16y5 not y7.

I simply tapped the pan and threaded in a 45 degree barbed fitting with a little Teflon tape. Its been working great and hasn't leaked a drop. IMO way way easier then tiging on a fitting or epoxy mumbo jumbo.

If its steel or aluminum, TIG the appropriate AN fitting on. Make sure you clean it with alcohol if its aluminum or you might see porosity issues. With steel you can most likely burn through any issues.

You can braze AL but I think you have to use a silver based alloy. I think some place named Alladin makes it. They are in grand rapids michigan. Brazing is actually the prefered method for joining things like fuel lines, oil lines and fittings. Most fuel pumps are brazed together. It just seals better and it's generally easier to pull off than tigging it with no pin holes for a beginner.
