Wear and Tear - AUtomatic Trans
1. We all can understand why city driving can cause a lot more wear and stress on a transmission. 0-40mph stop and go traffic.
2. We can also understand why hwy driving can cause less stress and wear on a transmission. Nice 65mph cruise.
What if one was to drive at a high hwy speed for a long period of time. Is is worst than #1 or #2? Across state. 90mph for 3 hour straight. Rest for 10 mins, and 3 more hours for 90mph. Total 16 hours on the road at high hwy speeds.

Honda autos are notorious for clutch slippage, which occurs between gear changes. So, cruising at a steady clip, is going to be much less wear....that is, given good fluid condition, proper load, etc.
90 mph, depending on engine size, can end up being a heavy load....an ATF cooler will definitely keep temps in check.

So what should one do on these long hwy trips? A rest stop sometimes only include a pee break. That's 5-10 mins.
