Default Tranny Codes?

Ok so i'm looking to get either an S20 or S40 tranny and i need to know if it will bolt up to a d15b.

i have a tranny on now with a casing code starting with s20 and a different one for the gearbox code.

how can i tell what engine it is originally from as well as what LSD i can buy for it....and if anyone can direct me to a DIY to install a LSD that would be awesome!

Thanks guys

Either will bolt up.

S20 = 92-95, S40 = 96-00

On the case near the fill plug is a stamp. A000 = small bearing (CX/DX/LX/VX) B000 = big bearing (EX/Si).

A000 = Pre-order MFactory 35mm LSD
B000 = MFactory or Quaife

I have MFactory 40mm (B000) LSD's in stock and am taking pre-orders on the 35mm (A000).

i've been told on CC that the s40 is the better tranny for any honda engine.....
i dont know tranny tech well so could you walk me through this?

bearing sizes? and where does the LSD go, etc.....i'm not a noob but i'm headed to auto school and i'd rather have most of this knowledge under my belt so everything else will come easier.

thanks in advance!

S40 has steel forks that don't break like the POS 88-95 aluminum forks. That's the main difference.

A000 and B000 use different sized bearings. LSD replaces the stock diff.

ohh ok so the steel (clutch fork right?) will take more pressure from the abuse of a high stage clutch? am i right in this thought process?

and the bearing size difference affects the transmission how? (i'm a thinking-through-a-process kinda of person) so i'm trying to understand how a transmission works.

and because of how i want to know how it all works, how do i install a LSD>?

Shift forks, not clutch fork.

Bearing size won't affect anything. Bearing life would probably be affected if you make a lot of power and expect the trans to last 100k before needing to be rebuilt.

To install the LSD you need to remove the gear stacks, forks, and diff, shim the diff, install the ring gear, and reinstall everything.
