I just bought a ITR LSD for my spare/project gsr trans. I just pressed on the new diff bearings, swapped over the ring gear, and dropped it in for the test fit. The ITR diff seems like its rubbing on the case somewhere. Not a notchy rub but just a constant non free spinning rub you can lightly hear. I dropped the Stock diff back in, and it spins like a top. I have always heard, and hell I even did a HT and google search, to confirm that it should fit in with no issues at all. I saw one post where a guy had mentioned sligtly sanding down a part of the inner case to make clearance, but his was the last post on the thread. Checked part numbers on the bearings, they are good. Part numbers on itr and gsr bolts are different so is that my issue?
Cliffs:
-itr diff in gsr trans w/ gsr ring gear
-drop in diff, no spin like top
-slight rub
-stock diff spins fine
Thanks!

I think i found out my issue. Its possible that I used LS bearings instead of the ones for a gsr. would this cause my issue?
You need to use B18C bearings.
You also need to shim the diff, which I assume you didn't do as you didn't post a question relating to a large clearance number or a knocking sound.

I simply test fit the diff into the clutch housing, which needs no shimming from what i understand. I was smart enough to test fit the new part i was installing BEFORE I wasted my time going any further. I know it needs to be shimmed. And now I know the bearings are not the same, lesson learned.
It needs to be shimmed. If you had gone ahead and checked the clearance while test fitting you would have caught the mistake (wrong bearings) as the clearance would have been way off. Replace the bearing, shim, and report back.

Gear housing never made it on because it was rubbing the clutch housing. Gear housing is where you check/replace the shim correct? Why would I have even gone as far as to bolt up the case and all to check the clearance when it was obvious that I had an issue with the diff in the clutch housing?

No, sorry for the confusion. I was just under the impression B16/LS/GSR bearings were all the same so i couldn't figure out why it would rub. Now i know. Thanks for the help though
When you install an LSD into a clutch housing that never had one before, you need to machine the ribbing for clearance, since the LSD is bigger than an open diff. The guy who did mine actually broke off the ribs with a crescent wrench or vise grips. I think Aquafina assumed that you already machined it out. As far as I know, the bearings are all the same size, the only difference being some are ball bearings and some are tapered roller bearings. both fit the same hole in the case, but require very different shim thicknesses.
