Default Shifter Problem? Pic inside.

i recently bought a shifter linkage from a friend for a good price and decided i wanted a GsR dual Bend shifter. I have a B series motor in an EG Hatch. the linkage is from a real EG6. The old d series shifter works and fits between the gap and the GsR dual bend (from a 97 GsR) is too long and will not fit? why?

in the picture the one in the shift linkage is the old d series and the newer one on the left is from the Teg. if you look closely you can tell one side is longer than the other.

well 1st off the shafts are in different legnths, after that the one already connected is shorter and fatter. take a closer look. might have to do a little shaving here n there if you want it to fit right
