Need a DIY for removal of s40 tranny! (video Inside)
Hey guys, so I need to replace the release bearing(throw out) in my car. I was just wondering if anyone knew where I can find a DIY guess of how to remove my tranny. I will be doing this on my own in about 2 weeks so any help would be great! Thanks!

Well I posted a thread here asking with a YouTube video. The thread is called 2000 ej8 transmission problem. And someone said its the throw out bearing. I'm also in high school still and have auto shop, I took it to my teacher he listened to is and said that also.

Does it make noise when you depress the clutch? If so it's the throwout bearing If it makes noise with the clutch out one or more of the 5 bearings in the tranny is bad. (usually the input shaft bearing, but not always)
I'm with bone though, 9 times out if 10 when someone thinks their throwout bearing is bad it's the input shaft bearing.

I'll go further on the odds, 400:1 that it is NOT the throwout bearing.
In 16 years I've seen ONE bad TOB but hundreds of bad ISB's.

Definitely not the throwout bearing. One of the 5 bearings in the transmission is bad, usually it's the input shaft bearing, next most likely is the top countershaft bearing.

Really? Ok well thanks. But I still need to know how to replace this bearing. I'll be dripping the tranny soon here and I was just wondering where exactly is the bearing located!? Thanks, I've looked around a little...but couldn't find it. I'll go check at school on a special website that we use maybe it will be there. Thanks guys so much for your help.
