Default M2F4 help.

Just finished rebuilding my m2f4 trans. Carbon synchros, new bearings, and seals All parts through synchrotech besides sleeves.

I don't know what's going on here and I'm hoping you guys can help me out. The mainshaft sits to high. I pounded the ISB all the way in along with the seal behind it and it still sits too high. With the spring washer and other washer on its not even close to meshing with the countershaft nicely.

Here's one with one washer on the mainshaft.

Here's how far the isb is in the case

ANY help is appreciated. I'm getting so fed up and frustrated with this.

I've rebuilt many d and b series transes but this is my first h/f series.

The countershaft will raise up when you install the top case and lift the shaft to lock the top bearing to the snap ring. You need to use both washers and check the mainshaft thrust clearance without the countershaft installed. The mainshaft should turn easily but not move in and out with all spacers and both case halves bolted together.

If you don't have the proper tool for measuring the mainshaft per FSM, I aim for .008"-.010" air gap between the cases with only the mainshaft and diff installed. with all washers.

One day I wanna compare my method with the proper method.

Yep. I got it. I totally forgot about the CS raising when the cases bolted together. I was tired and pissed off last night lol. Thanks fellas!

I personally would be more concerned at why your teeth are meshing so close to the end of the gear face, your gonna break them.

History on the trans?

Just bought it off of some random with a cracked bell housing. I got it welded up threw in carbon synchros and new seals, bearings. It hasn't exploded yet lol.

I hate to joke, but I see "the end of gear teeth in your future".

I noticed that too when I was assembling it. I counted all the gear ratios and they were all correct. I made sure I pressed the isb in evenly too. So idk what the hell the guy did before me. None of the gears whine besides 2nd cause it has a small chip on the mainshaft side from the original owner. Nobody's an honest seller anymore. It's very few and far between when I find one.

"There is only one thief, everyone else is just trying to get their Sh** back." I can't say I blame them, personally, for as much as the average man has been ripped over the years. Just need due diligence I guess.

Well I will be replacing my clutch within the next couple weeks. I'll crack the trans open again and check it out. What would cause the gears to be out like that? They are all the same clearance so I'm not really sure what the problem is. The FD faintly whines down on deaaccel so I'm thinking mismatched set??

When you pull it apart again take pictures of the 1-2 sleeve/slider assembly.. I had a whine in second gear that i fixed but never expected the issue to cause it.. It was a m2b4 gear set..

I counted the gears and all the ratios are correct for the m2f4 gearstack. There is a small chip on 2nd gear on the mainshaft that's why it whines.
