you don't pull the motor with the trans? i just did about two weeks ago. i'm sure you could get it all done in a day if you had two guys pulling the motor and tearing the tranny off and putting the motor back in. i've never done an LSD in a b16 tranny before. what are the shims for?

Differential thrust.

I never pull the engine with the trans. Just pull the trans by myself. Easier if you have an engine hoist.

Ditto the above,^^^ I have pulled the tranny on my 94LS at least 8 times, [replacing springs on the Phantom Grip LSD] and have never had to pull the engine, that would be a lot of unnecessary work.
The first time I did the pull was to install the GSR tranny, I had already installed the LSD and had some gussets welded to the GSR tranny and with the help of a friend the swap took about 2hr, the later pulls and spring replacements took about 6hr, the tranny Re&Re still takes 2hr or less, the rest of the time is in pulling the tranny apart to inspect it for damage and replace the springs. 94

i've done it both ways. and i have an engine crane. if you just pull the tranny you gotta undo the middle engine bracket and support the engine with a jack and getting the driveshafts out is alot harder. pulling engine is simple. just pull wiring harness through firewall and undo all hoses and engine mounts and pull. did the engine pull in about an hour. then you lower the engine and tranny onto the floor and undo tranny and do whatever's gotta be done. bolt it back up and lift it back in. fighting with the drive shafts and getting the tranny to slide off the engine enough so it will drop is a pain in the ***. not much room in these honda's.

To the OP. Right now i have a 300 whp gsr at 10psi with a USDM GSR Trans (open diff) Tires are Azenis RT-615's on stock gsr blades. The tires will hold the 300wph in third no problem but second gear a lot of feathering is needed. I also have the car tuned for 362whp at 16psi and second gear is almost useless at this hp level. I'm saving up for a brand new usdm itr trans this winter and i can't wait to have lsd, as i have heard it's a night and day difference in traction. You wanted an answer from someone at this hp level with open diff and i say get the lsd

well i'll most likely be getting one but for now it's gonna be no LSD. i've gotta get motor mounts, timing belt, plug wires, plugs, valve colver, hondata, injectors just to get the car running so i can get it tuned. once it's tuned and everything's done i'll pull motor one weekend and throw an LSD in. the car is taking up my whole garage and it needs to be atleast running very soon. getting down to -10 C here at night.
