Default LSD Question

first off how much they cost for a good one and also is it NEEDED for a boosted civic putting down 300-325 whp? building top end of my b16 now for more boost and if i'm gonna have serious traction issues i'd like to know right away so i can install an LSD.

A GOOD one will be in the 650-9xx (whatever a Quaife is now) range.

Depends on what kind of driving you do. I have a massive guesstimated 115whp D16 and without an LSD, my car was worthless the last time I was on track (road course). Regardless, the kind of power you have warrants an LSD if for no other reason to save your trans from a blown stock diff.

i'm gonna be pushing 300-320 whp. will i have a problem with traction if i don't have an LSD? i mean the tires are gonna spin a bit i understand but if i go to race someone i don't wanna be sitting at the light spinning while they're gone.

I'm waiting for an MFactory LSD.
They have them available right now for the b16's for $650.00.

I'd say you would be better off with one than without one.
That is my opinion with no experience with a 350whp car.

You will need an LSD and a good one, without one you will be busting axles or C/V joints.

I am running, [or was] about 225 HP, [nitrous oxide] and went through one axle and 3 C/V joints, [in two months] until I installed the GSR tranny with a PhantomGrip LSD and a set of Raxals, no problem since, my new motor, [boosted B18a] will put down 325BHP at the wheels, I will replace the GSR tranny with a modified LS tranny with a Quaife LSD, or if I can find a Type R tranny and not get raped buying it, I will use it.
The PhantomGrip sells for $500-$600, but get extra sets of springs as they are only good for about one year. 94

on phantomgrips site it's saying $300 for an LSD. is that correct? does it require anything else or is all in that kit. also i've never done an LSD in any of my honda's and i'm not sure if phantom grip is good quality or shitty. everyone's saying $600+ for a good LSD so this price makes this very fishy.

what's the best "bang for buck" lsd out there then? last thing i want is to build my car up and then have my tranny blow up. rather spend 600 for an LSD and not have to worry

MFactory. Better and more consistent clearances than the Quaife, lighter, stronger, cost less.

It'll be in a kinda stockish motor.
Just do it one time, and buy a good product.

Yea, probably $300 US, the PhantomGrip is a pretty basic "LSD" and as I said, get extra springs, I have had mine in a GSR tranny, [94LS] for more then 10 years without any problems, [other then the springs] but will be replacing it with a "real" LSD in my [LS tranny] or a Type R tranny for the new motor.

I got the P/G for free from a shop that had just picked up PhantomGrip as a line and wanted to try it out, I had the GSR tranny pulled apart to inspect it before I installed it so we put it in, I was pretty sceptical that twp blocks of metal with four springs in-between would work, but was satisfied it worked after a few wins at the autocross track, and no more busted axles or C/V joints. 94

You don't pull the engine with the trans. Can't install LSD in one day unless you have all diff shims in stock, or get lucky and don't need a different shim.
