help removing GSR/LSD transmission
I have the engine and transmission connected to a hoist but sitting on the floor.
I've already removed the starter, exhaust mani, half-shaft, all sensors/connectors and seven 17mm bolts around the bellhousing but it ain't budging!
Thanks for looking,
Jon

If you do have everything dis-connected..There are dowel/guide pins and sometimes you have to really jiggle and man handle the gearbox to loosen it from the dowels. Especially if there may be some rust in there which happens sometimes.

Re: help removing GSR/LSD transmission
Is there a place on the block that's made to pry this off?

You shouldnt have to pry necessarily, I would try to almost bounce it up and down while holding the end of the gearbox and it should pop loose. You can also take a rubber mallet and tap the case on the side near where the half shaft goes. Unless the clutch or main shaft has damage that is not allowing it to free up.

Re: help removing GSR/LSD transmission
OK, so I've been beating the crap out of my trans and it ain't coming off...
I'm a noob so I'm thinking I'm missing something obvious.
I have the block hooked to the hoist (on the floor) I have tried the rubber mallet, shaking it, standing on the transmission mount and prying it.
I have looked around the entire block/trans-axle seam area and I'm pretty sure I got all the 17mm bolts, the starter is off, the 2 bolts next to the oil pan that connect to the mounts are off, water neck is off, wtf?

did you get the plate that covers the flywheel and is under the oil pan off? there are 2 10mm bolts and 2 12mm bolts. it does not directly hold on the tranny but it is connected to the tranny and hits the flywheel thus it wont come off cuz its stuck on the flywheel.

Re: help removing GSR/LSD transmission
I "wiggled" the living !@#$ out it as well.
I did notice near the area where the flywheel plate is that there is what sounds like a very small leak. Like something is pressurized inside the trans.
I took, what I believe was the trans fluid drain plug, to try to release any pressure but that did nothing.

I can't think of anything else nobody hasn't already covered. Do an up and down type action as you pull if straight off. It won't come off at much of an angle.

Re: help removing GSR/LSD transmission
I can also turn the flywheel so I don't think it's stuck. I have, more or less, dragged the engine across the floor by the transmission and it still won't budege.
