Default handcuff installed incorrectly?

bought this trans last yr...its a gsr with a quaife and cnc design handcuff. the gear case had a crack in it so i finally got around to replacing the case and well i was looking at the cuff and noticed 2 things different then other installs i have seen.

i see no 5th gear slider over the hub so the shift fork basically floats there. is that correct? other pics i hav seen have the slider or a custom made spacer.

also i noticed the washer with the "tang" on it that fits in the slot in the case is missing. other pics i have seen having it there with the tang facing up and i have even seen a pic with the tang facing down. do i need that washer and which direction should the "tang" face...up or down....

ive included a picture if you cant understand how i worded this...also feel free to point out anything else that you see wrong in the pic...its not much but its the best i can do from my cell phone

Never heard of this thing before. What does it actually do?

"This cuff takes the place of 5th gear effectively shortening the main & counter shafts reducing shaft flex. This product is a must for serious dragracers."

When we insall a B series cuff we use the 5/R sleeve along with the reverse synchro, cone and stopper plate. The stopper plate is that washer with a tang. It locks in the main case holding the reverse cone allowing the reverse synchro to work. Without these parts it may be more difficult to engage the reverse gear.

thanks for the reply...the only down side is difficulty putting it in reverse? if you dont see any issues other then that i think im going to run it like that rather then track down all the 5/r parts...

Give it a try and if you run into problems, I can hook you up with everything you will need.
