Icon2 Half shaft install

I have replaced an outer cv boot with a new split ring on a 95 civic LX (passenger side) and have inserted the half shaft into the transmission, aligned it straight, used a block of wood and wacked it hard several times and can not get it to seat all the way into place. Any help on the trick or my mistake? First post here, so I'm at your mercy...be gentle!

There is no halfshaft, its just an axle.

Brake assembly works well to get it in if you cannot get it in by hand (you should be able to, just takes some elbow grease).

Lee's Summit must be growing, I've seen a bunch of people on here from there in the past year.

Sorry for the wrong terminology...Chilton's desribes it that way. I'm not sure how the brake assembly helps the situation, can you describe in more detail? I moved to Lee's Summit from Sioux Falls, SD about 18 months ago, so I am one of the many! About 20 degrees warmer most days and I'm loving that.

use the weight of the knickle assembly as a slide hammer once axle is inserted into the hub, just don't pull back too far and seperate the CV joint.

Make sure to wipe your greasy paw prints off the rotor once done

Default Tried but true?

I've tried the slide hammer approach with no luck. Is it really as simple as lining it up and wacking it? Its been so long I must have forgotten how! Any other ideas on why this is frustrating me so?

pull the axle out check the inboard housing clip if you cant compress the clip below the splines on the inner stub it will never go in the outter diameter of the clip should be .90 or smaller put the axle back in the tranny a shake it around while slightly pushing in when you fell it set in place then hit it softly it should slide in unless you already damaged the inside of your diff hopefully not GOOD LUCK

insanemike24 saves the day with the winning answer! The spring clip that came with the new boot was too wide to go in its place! It would not compress enough to get by the inner splines. I will be at the dealership first thing (not O'Reilly's) to get the spring and I plan on having this ride on the road tommorrow! After Mike enlightened me, I tried inserting the HALFSHAFT without the clip on and it slid right in, first pop. BRILLIANT Mike! Thank you all for your help, I could not afford to get this fixed at a shop if I wanted our family to have Christmas at all this year. I hope you all have a great Christmas at your home too.
