Default Final Drive/LSD install

I have a few questions dealing with this install. First off, is it nessessary to check the preload ? In the Evans Tuning article on YouTube i believe he does not check it, or he said that most trannys he has done dont need to be shimmed. Secondly what else should you check ?

Also dont gears create a wear pattern and by swapping in a new ring gear wouldnt that mess with this ?

you should recheck the shim just in case if you dont and you're clearance is too tight something will in the tranny eventually

H22 uses tapered bearings, PRELOAD Must be checked or you will destroy the bearings very quickly. Likely in the Evans tech tip the tranny was using the more common caged ball bearings.

wear pattern??????

That is only a worry on hypoid gears like in RWD cars.

Not a hypoid design, where pinion depth and contact pattern is critical.

Go research it.

On top of that, final drives replaces both the ring and the pinion....new parts for each, so wear is not an issue anyway.
