A few transmission questions
#1- Why does the car feel different starting off with the shifter in 2 than D3 or D? It almost feels like it is in a lower gear than 1st. I thought it would just not shift above 2nd gear. But shouldn't 1st gear be unaffected?
#2-I have a Mishimoto rad with no built in transmission cooler. I have had a Hayden trans cooler on instead. Is that okay? it seems to shift fine.
#3-How hard is it to change the trans filter in a BMXA trans with it out of the car?
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. The car is a 2005 Civic with a BMXA trans.

Re: A few transmission questions
1: When the shift is in 2, you are starting in 2nd gear. This can be evidenced by the release/engagement that is felt when you move from D3 to 2. 2 and 1/L are physical gearshifts, and shifting should not occur in those positions.
2: As long as the transmission cooler is of a reasonable size (6x6 inch or larger) you will not have any problems. The unit should be mounted in front of the A/C condenser. In warmer months, you may be adding heat to the fluid which will shorten its life if it is not in this location.
3: The transmission filter is not a routine maintenance item. It is serviced when the transmission is torn down for a rebuild. These filters are prone to clogging as the clutches wear, and may require you to service the filter prematurely. Most quality transmission oils will dissolve larger particles into smaller ones allowing them to be discharged at fluid change. If you change your fluid based on routine or severe service, this should not be a concern unless your driving habits cause you to shift up/down in high load situations repeatedly.
