Default Dfference between Mfactory and JDM type R LSD

Just wondering what is the difference. We currently run a Mfactory GSR/ITR LSD from syncrotech with a 4.7 ITR FD from GearX in a SIR box and have a JDM 97 swap coming from Hmotorsonline. We are swaping the diffs and final drive but what is the difference between the 2 diffs?

Possibly different style diff bearings and shims. Pre 98 ITR uses tapered roller bearings and 98+ ITR uses ball bearings. If you use the bearings and shims with your MFactory LSD from the old trans and check the clearance you should be fine.

We ordered new diff bearings after I read "How to Convert from Taper to Ball Bearings on Hydro GSR and Type R Transmissions" and we ordered the 1.45 shim, and a set of axle seals and mainshaft seal.
We realy dont know whats in the trans as the guys who rebuilt it 3 different times, told us something else was wrong the each time he did it but it has the same problem to this date. Jumps out of 4th at high revs when you lift and get back on the throttle. The trans was first done with your synchrotech carbon kit, Mfactory diff, and GearX 4.7FD. But after only 1 year of racing it would jump out of 4th gear when you lift and get back on the trottle and all the syncros were toast. He told me one washer wasnt installed but it wasnt his fault. Even thou his shop did the trans build. Clearly we killed it. anyway now we just have the diff and FD, and since i have no idea on what is in the box and how old anything is or how many times it was reused from other transmission, we went with atleast new bearings on the diff. since the trans there going in is hopefully a vergin we can hope its not to bad inside. lol .

Anyway, more less looking for the difference in the diff itself. There both gear drivin, but how big of a difference will we see in them?

Both are helical gear driven but the MFactory LSD is lighter and stronger. It also has quicker engagement than the OEM LSD.

Good luck with the build

You'll notice a nice difference between the two. All of my customers that have driven both prefer the MFactory.
