Default 4.7 oem FD

I heard from a friend that the OEM 4.7 FD from the 98+ ITR was more fragile than the 4.4 and that if I start tracking (hpde/road race) my car regularly there is a strong possibility I will break the FD. I have searched all over H-T and there are no threads corroborating his claim, as well as a general internet search.

Do I really need to invest in an aftermarket part or is my friend speaking out of his ***?

Thanks!

Hahaha.

Yeah, his rationale and anecdotal evidence was shaky at best. He has surprised me with stuff before though, so I asked.

Thanks!

from my understanding.. the ITR LSD is whats considered weak compared to aftermarket options when dealing with high hp numbers.

as for the final drive, no difference lol

By the way, i would prefer the 4.7 if not going higher if you plan to track. its nice being able to stay in the power band without shifting.

Currently using a itr lsd + Gear X 4.9 final drive in my b17 trans. was built for track but i basically wander locally or fly down the highway. turned into a sleeping go kart from a roll, not ideal gearing from a dig
