Default wut gear am i in?

okay this isnt really a problem, but its very annoying and id like to fix it.
when im in gear i have LOTS of play (in the shifter) as if i were to be in neutral.
say for instance im in 5th, i can wiggle the shifter and make it look like im in 1st gear.......
does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem?
input appreciated!

Check out the shifter bushing? I could be wrong, but since nobody else is suggesting anything...

Had the same problem, turns out there was a bolt and nut holding the linkage to the tranny instead of the oem roll pin (aka bitch pin). Installed the bitch pin and problem solved. Now I just have to deal with tranny popping out of 5th due to linkage hitting o2 sensor!

lots of the time if people are realy rough with their shifter it willl slightly wear the sides of the hole in the shift linkage where the roll pin goes through the tranny, causing sloppy shifter, or else the pin itself could be slightley worn causing play, and also possiply the bushing at the tranny for the stabalizer bar6
