Default WTH is this red stuff in my distributor (cap)

So I flooded my engine with gas yesterday. I let it dry overnight and it still wouldn't start. I changed the plugs on a tip that I may of fouled the old ones, still wouldn't start. Checked for spark, none. Then I noticed some oil dripping at the bottom of the distributor so I removed to cap and blam :

WTH?!

There was also oil in there and the rotor/cap points were corroded to ****. I'm guessing I blew a seal, but what the hell is that red stuff?

The red stuff is most likely rust from the distributor bearing..
Pull your distributor out and rotate the shaft with your hand..
If it feels rough, you need to replace it before it locks up...

It didn't really look like rust to me but it would make sense. Maybe it got ground up so much it turned into that fine powder. Anyways, I'll check that out but I guess it's already too late, the car won't start anymore. Thanks.

lol, yeah. Winter sucks. Beats having a cold slush intake.

Bingo. The bearing probably got tight and generated a lot of heat, cooking it from the inside. Put me on the side of the road. Go ahead and get a new one.

The red death.

I just purchased a replacement dizzy because of it.

If you let it go it will start squeaking. That squeak will then become a squeal. When it's all said and done you'll be in limp mode and throwing 3-4 CELs.

I don't think it qualifies as a hot air intake when it's -30 degrees celcius outside

Well, thanks for the replies. I don't think I'll be replacing it though, this engine needs too many other things and this was the straw that broke the camel's back, I'm just glad it got me through winter. I just wanted to know what it was since I had never encountered it before.

Yes the red dust!! I don’t think it is from rust but something else that you get when the bearing/bushing starts to wear out. I have had this happen to me on 3 Honda distributors. I’m not on my 4th one now.
