open up your nitrous bottle a little and let it bleed just before getting out...

actually I'm willing to bet that your hind sliding across the seat is causing a build-up on your body. Try changing the way you get out of your car.

did you know that everytime you get shocked, you are actually putting little holes in your skin?!? I wrote a piece on this a LONG time ago, for a website I used to run. Here's an archive of the text.

my car shocks me now too.. i think it just has to do with the time of the year. its not a humidity thing because i just drove it from texas to california and it still zaps me every time i touch the top of the door on the way out
LOL. Get used to it Brian. I get shocked every winter. I've learned to place my hands on the door frame before setting foot on the ground. That tends to help a little. Otherwise I can physically see the arc from finger to car. It sounds funny, but drinking lots of water helps to.

Dammit, you people are making my engineering classes come out....

Ok, here's what happens. The tires moving across the ground causes a static buildup in the car. It works just like when you drag your feet over carpet. Do it long enough and you build up static in yourself even if you are wearing rubber shoes. Touch metal and pow. The car works the same way when it drags its tires over the ground. Grippy tires make this worse, as they grip the ground harder and build up more static.

When you touch the ground, then the car, all the electricity instantly arcs through you into the ground. If you touch the car first, electricity moves into you so that you and the car have the same charge. Static then passes out into the ground when you touch it. The car doesn't shock you, because you and the car already have the same charge.

P.S. Cold weather causes more static to build up. In the winter the car zaps you, in the summer it usually doesn't.

Yeah it is the cloth seats. Because when I had my leather, I never got shocked. For about 6 months I always got shocked. Now, I have my leathers back in and no more shock....

Why does anyone care if the get shocked? Does it hurt so much that it matters? What I hate is when the car breaks... thats what really sucks.
