Default Who uses turned cranks?

I usually junk messed up cranks and find good ones to use when building motors. But I got this integra the other day, and upon inspection, I discovered the crank has been turned and has new bearings. Apparently, one of the previous owners had the crank machined, bought new bearings and oil pump to rebuild the bottom end. Then he dropped a bolt into the timing belt area which caused the belt to break. I guess he didn't want to mess with it after that, so it was sold.

I really don't like the idea of running this crank, but it is true. it's an LS crank with 54.75mm main journals and 44.5mm rod journals. I'm building a stock LS motor to put back in the car and drive around for a while as a daily with a FS sign on it.

What do you guys think? I'm pretty sure the crank won't have that nitride-hardened coating on it anymore after the machine work, so will it hold up?

My local machine shop recently said that the ACL bearings come in different sizes "depending on how much you had cut your crank", 10, 20, or 30 thousandths. I suppose I could have "fixed" my bad crankshaft, but they wanted $60. I found a good crankshaft at a local engine cores supplier for $50.
Q.Who uses turned cranks?
A.Not me. Long live the D series....good luck

i always thought that ACL only has 2 sizes, stock and an oversize. honda OEM bearing has a lot more sizes than ACL.

Word to the wise find a good crank. I put together a h23vtec with a bad f22 crank. Took the crank to one machine shop they told me to find another. Went to another machine shop the next day. They said they could turn it and i got oversized bearings. It lasted from Feb 09 till november right before thanksgiving start to get a knock and it was a rod knock. Then i heard from a friend later after that never to use a turned crank. B/c honda throws there's away that don't reuse bad cranks so lesson learned. Will never do that again.

I was just about to post something very similar to this, If you go to a good shop they will not use or install a turned crank.
Its cheaper and eaiser to replace the crank or get a whole new longblock, factory honda cranks can hold alot of power, i think around 300+, and they will last longer than a turned crank and over sized bearnings, theres just no reliabilty in using them.

If someone tells you its ok to use them, just walk away slowly and don't turn your back, b/c you do you could end up getting screwed from behind.
