When to bleed brakes?
I am installing new Axxis pads on my 99 gs-r on the fronts. I wanted to know if I needed to bleed the brakes. Also, anybody have any installation tutorials on how to change the front brakes.
Thanks!
Thanks!
its always good to bleed the brakes every couple years, even for a street vechicle. The fluid degrades over time and it is the old fluid that eats the seals of the calipers and master cylinder. The pads are very very easy to change.
1. remove wheel
2. remove lower caliper mounting bolt
3. remove old pads
4. using a large C-clamp push caliper piston back into the caliper
5. install new pads and reinstall caliper bolt
6. press brake pedal a couple times to make sure the pad "seats" properly
7. test drive

Yeah, I would bleed your brakes when you change your pads. You already have the wheel off, and its really easy to do if you have a friend. If not you can pick up a vaccum pump at your local parts supply store for $30 or so.
I had my fluid bleed at the begining of the year, and I felt a great difference when I flushed and filled it with Vavoline Syntec (previously was honda DOT3).
