Default Whats wrong with this motor??? Worth rebuild?

Inquiring for a friend, was running fine, somehow a hole was punctured in the radiator...motor lost all coolant, started overheating. Tried starting it back up, wont start. Did a compression check, hardly no compression at all in any of the cylinders...like 30 10 30 20, if that, what went bad? Also would it be worth rebuilding the motor for a project car. The motor will crank over but will not start. Any ideas?? TIA.

umm well i don't know how bad you over heated your car. but it could be a bad head gasket and lead to mess up the valves or the rings. because if your valves stay open at all time than you won't get compression at all. and if you're rings is gone than you would hardly getany compression either. well if this motor is that bad like you said. than why not take the head off and take a look.
But if you arelooking forward for another GSR b18C1 please be free to email me at streamlineek@hotmail.com or give me a call at my work http://www.prodigyworks.com
i'll see what i can hook you up with.
thank you

Sounds like your friend fried the head gasket and possibly warped the head. It's impossible to tell without pulling the head. If it turns over properly without any binding or weird noises than the valves are probably OK but again, it's impossible to tell without pulling the head.

If the valves and rings are alright than it is a simple matter to fix it back up. Get a new headgasket and resurface the head and you're good to go.

with that low compression and overheated besides, you have one of three problems, headgasket, cracked head, or collapsed rings. pour about two cap fulls of oil into each cylinder and see if compression increases. if it does, your problem lies with the rings, if not, pull the head and have it checked.
