Default What paint to use on bolts/nuts?

If I let rustolem enamel (from a can) dry on bolts/nuts for like 3 days, will it be strong enough and not come off with a socket? What about on control arms/tie rods?

I used this (75% paint, 25% mineral spirits):

Install, then paint.

Not an option.

Does anyone know if enamel is durable enough? A buddy of mine is confident it is as long as it completely dries...

if you paint the bolts the paint is going to come right off when torquing them...and its going to look like poo.
you can get the bolts coated like most stock ones.

Coated with what? What should I use? They are all wire wheeled and need some sort of coating to prevent rust...

look around locally for metal coating products called black oxide, they sell kits to do it at home- or http://www.e-blacksolutions.com

It will be cheaper to buy all new then have them plated. Cad platers usually have a minimum price doesn't matter whether you give them 1 bolt or 100.

I use rustoleum primer that is supposed to prevent rust. It says you can spray "sound rusted parts" too, but I wire wheel, spray the primer, and then I've been using duplicolor engine enamal. Semi gloss black. Here's a pic of some **** I've been doing.

I actually don't spray the bolts until they're torqued.

Well the rustoleum paint was $7 and I probably won't even use 1/4 of it. All bolts new over the hood would probably cost $300. I hope it works.

Just to let you all know, Rustoleum only scrapes off minimally when torqueing bolts to 80 lbs. A little touch up with a foam brush and they look perfect.

I agree. It would look much better and cheaper to buy new OEM bolts. Thats what I do.

Oh, I didn't use spray, I used roll-on paint with a foam brush. Consider how people use this paint for their whole car ($50 paint job), it looks good but needs to be touched up after torqueing. I'll post pics when I get a camera.

Make sure when touching up to get the entire head of the bolt. I did what you did a while back and ended up with rust eating through primer due to me missing difficult spots on the bottom of the bolts when touching up. Just a heads up but if you got it all it should be fine.
