Having searched and read other various threads/posts i've decided to remove my cat. i have a mugen cat back system with stock header. What sort of gains can i expect and secondly will the exhaust note be noticably louder as its as loud as i want it at the moment on acceleration, and i dont really want it excessively loud.

i wouldn't do it *shrug*
it's not worth the $3K fine and the ruining of the environment to get +.02 HP and a louder sound.

I second that, if its important get a race cat. Lower restriction and you won't run the risk of a huge fine, car being impounded or what ever the Jack booted thugs at the DMV want to do to you. And you won't pollute for no real reason.
H/C/E all work as one system, many people have a hard time thinking of it this way.
Instead they figure there header will give them 7hp and there exhaust will give them 3hp, when the header and exhaust work together along with the cat. Its time to stop thinking about what part gives me how much HP, because each component doesn't work by itself. Sure a catback exhaust may give 3hp to an otherwise stock vehicle, but do you really think that it won't differ if you have a properly mated cat and header?
Its funny that very few people swap out there cat. I always see people posting "What mod shoudl I do next? I have I/H/E" , and it baffles me. These people have a 2.25" or even 2.5" exhaust system except for a 2" cat. If you can't see why this is a bottleneck, you should do some reading.
With the stock cat, your exhaust system is not working up to there true potential. You probably spent a grand on the header and exhaust, and they are not even working at there peak performance. Would you shorten the middle section of your intake tube by half an inch? No, because it would be a huge bottle neck, why should exhaust systems be any different?
I wouldn't remove the cat all together, its bad for the enviorment and its a huge fine. Carsound cats are very high quality, and flow almost as well as a testpipe. They are only about $200 shipped, go get one.

I have a JDM caldo honda hi flow cat on at the moment and i just think its done as i feel it restricting the exhaust, but how do i check for sure if its done/clogged. My car sailed thru emissions 6 months ago. BTW i live in europe and theres no fine for removing the cat, its not even an offence, it just has to be on the car when do the national car test every 2 years. I may just go and get my self a new hi flow cat
Making my little Honda sound like a whoopie cushion is not my idea of a good time. Engine sounds like ****, car spews out more **** than cigarette smoke... Just don't do it, if you did, put it back on.. I breathe the same air you do

Ok, coming from a country where you don't have to have a cat converter, lots of people get it removed.
The general concensus is, if it's full of gunk it makes a small difference, otherwise it's not worth it. I had mine removed, felt no diff, and i definately wouldn't risk a big fine.
