what the hell can i do to a 1980 accord
recently i bought a 1980 accord hatch, and was wondering if anybody has ever succsefuly gave one actual HP. so far ive been setting it up to auto cross, (subaru bucket seats with 4 point harness's, lowerd 1.5", with 2" exhuast). i really dont want to have to swap the motor due to finacial restrictions. anybody got any advice.
ps, i heard from sombody that they made turbo kits for thees old school accords but i have been unable to find any.

i would change the carberatour and make sure the car has no major leaks and maintain it specially if your autocrossing . by the way is it a carb. or fuel injected.
well, it's possible to put a turbo on any car, but I don't know that I'd spend my money on a 1980 accord. Piecing together some junkyard parts and then getting some custom pieces like a manifold, downpipe and some form of engine management can be expensive. It's almost worth saving the money and investing in a second gen CRX or something with a lot more tuning potential.
Your other options include rebuilding the engine for more power including stronger rods, high compression pistons and a ported head, but that could easily run into the thousands of dollars especially considering the fact that you would need to get custom pistons and rods made. Also, valve train components will probably all have to be custom (i.e. expensive).
Personally (not to be hating on your car) I wouldn't invest the money, I'd save a little, get something with more potential, and go from there.
And by the way, welcome to Honda-Tech.

well i do have a 92 ex accord coupe, but i like to mod the more archaich imports that were more or less drivin ito the ground.
and yes unfortunatly it is carburated.
P.s. how hard do you guys think it would be to drop a newer (i.e. ZC) FI motor.

I actually think dropping in something like a ZC would be a lot easier than a lot of people would like to think. First make sure you have sufficient hood clearance for the motor and that the motor will actually fit into the engine bay without problems. Then go to town with a cutter and a welder making engine mounts, tranny mounts, and relocating things that would otherwise be in the way. Use an original harness that was made for the zc and shorten/lengthen wires to suit the new setup. You'd need custom axles made to fit the ZC tranny and the Accord hub (shouldn't be expensive), and you may need to do some custom work with the steering rack. Run the harness through the firewall and put the ECU wherever you like it. You probably wouldn't need to worry about wiring up the electronic equipment in the car already, because it isn't connected with the engine wiring harness in any way. It sounds like a fun project, just either be sure you know what you're doing with a welder, or know someone who does.

Motorsports at it's finest, no doubt. I still think trying the ZC swap is a better idea
