what ECU do I use?
What computer would be good if I have a DOHC VTEC motor in a 92 integra? The problem with a GSR computer is that my speedo is cable driven, not electrical. I hear the PR3 computer is a pile of crap. Any new DOHC VTEC computer has the electric speedo and I hate the check engine light for that. Even though there is a CEL on because of the speedo, does that mean that it is in safety mode. I know my car has been in safety mode because I do not have a knock sensor, but if I get a knock sensor and only have the speedo problem, will I be running safety settings? I dont want to convert to electrical speedo. Some people from different shops told me that the only good way for me to get around the CEL was a stand alone or ROM chipped computer because the PR3 would just make me ping all day long and the others give me CEL, what do you think? True? I appreciate any help.

You're best off with a 92-93 GSR/B17A ECU aka P61.
ha! thats rediculous..."pr3 would make you ping all day?" that's false unless you're running some seriously high compression and it doesn't sound like you are. Since you have a 92 Integra (LS?) I suggest you get an electrical speedo to solve your simple problems - duh. And in the meantime, wire up the KS while your at it. Get it over with don't be a lazy bitch about it either - like most hybriders.
Don't listen to those shops...sounds like they're:
Keep this in mind too, whenever you get a check engine light, yes it's in safe mode.
Although some things on the engine still work - for instance, you can leave your KS disconnected and VTEC will still work. You also NEED the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) in order to allow VTEC to work. VTEC mainly needs, coolant temp, VSS, & oil pressure to work.
good luck chuck.

well what is it I need to do in order to change from cable to electrical speedo. Does it require much rewiring and a new speedo? Also, I will have to first buy a knock sensor to hook it up, I will fhave to find out how much they are ect... does anyone know the ballpark range of a knock sensor?
LMAO @ Katman's graphic representation!
Hey i'm using PR3 don't dog it
. Yes it can be fussy at times. Compared to 2nd gen. B16a it has a lot more sensors, some of which I don't think is necessary. I broke my knock sensor when swapping intake manifolds. Put my car in limp mode for a month
. VTEC still activates but timing was retarded by 2-4 degrees so there's no power. Got a 2nd hand KS and she was up and running fine again
. Try to pick one up 2nd hand as brand new ones are quite pricey. I always keep a spare one in the tool box. I 2nd Katman, just hook up your KS and be done with it. You'll probably need to remove your IM to access it. Do it once, do it right.
OT: Katman, would 11:1 CR be too high for a Hondata tuned PR3 to handle?

ok so I will get the knock sensor for sure, what about the speedometer, can you tell me how to change it to electric? Thanks.
edit: also, how much power do you think I am losing with safety mode on?

some more advice..
I can reprogram your PR3 ECU to NOT look for a:
KS
2nd 02
& VTEC pressure switch (dunno why that's disabled!)
using a MUGEN PR3 program if your interested that is.
All you have to wire up is the VTEC solenoid.
Also, more VSS info...
if you want to retain your cable VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS), get a non-eletronic VSS from either a JDM DA B16A engine (might come with your engine), or a 90-93 US integra VSS. It will work and VTEC will work too.
