What is the difference between a cable tranny and hydraulic?
cable trannies use a cable between thet op of the clutch pedal and the trans to actuate/disengage the throwout bearing and pressure plate. hydraulic trannies use a hydraulic system not unlike your brakes to do the same job. Disadvantage cable: over long periods of time cables can stretch. Advantage cable: can be adjusted to suit driving style and preferred point of engagement. Advantage hydraulic: easier on the leg when a strong *** pressure plate is used.
Cable trannies use a cable encased in a hose to engage/disengage the CLUTCH
Hydraulic trannies use fluid pulled through a hose to do the same thing
Advantages and disadvantages are that some transmission with gearing ratios you want, only come in one or the other
And for swaps, its hella easier finding a motor/tranny combo with what your car was set up for originally.
I like cable myself, less mess and things to go wrong.
