Default What is B16 oil pan made of?

I thought I read a while back it was aluminum, but that doesnt make any sense. It is steel right? need to know before I try to weld up my return line fittings...

I thought the pan was aluminum but I guess they could be made out of steel. I guess I will have to do some addtional research.

I beleive it is steel as well....otherwise how do oilpans get dents in them without cracking???

anyone know for sure?

Catastrophe averted once again, thanks to mmuller!!! How did this get to be such a big deal...

Hint: Honda likes to leave aluminum in its natural state, not painted. Exception is the valve cover.

If you are not sure,
Use a magnet..
steel/cast iron is magnetic
Aluminum is not...

sure but stainless is rarely used in cars with the exception of the Delorean.

its definitely not stainless. I have some surface rust on teh bottom of mine that I noticed during install tonight.

Not quite true. Some stainless steel (ie ferritic stainless steel) is magnetic. Other stainless steel (like the 18-8 austinitic steel commonly used for pots and pans) is not.
