Default Simple question, oil pan weld on bung, steel or aluminum?

Like the topic says I'm pretty sure the pan is aluminum so I would want an aluminum weld on bung but for some reason when I searched, mention was made of a steel bung for the oil pan.

steel, easier to weld...aluminum tends to melt easier...

you can pick up steel fitting for cheap...

My gsr is steel, but I think some civics come with aluminum. put a magnet to it and if it sticks, get a steel bung. If not then get an aluminum.

Wait do you mean to say you can weld a steel bung onto an aluminum pan? I didn't
know you could weld dissimilar metals. Or did I misunderstand?

i think you can, but it takes longer and is harder, but i am not a welder so i might be wrong.

Just for you, i put a small magnet to it and it stuck, so i guess that means it is steel. i have a 2000 civic si

you cannot weld aluminum to steel. you have to get the type of bung that is the same metal as your oil pan.
