Default Welding the Diff?!?!

Seen some ppl are going this and im building up a high hp SOHC. cant afford a quaife yet. So instead of peglegging it at the track i was thinking of just welding the diff. got some 22x8's too.
the only thing im worried about it snapping the stock axles with the welded diff. i know the open would put less stress on them and could increase their lifespan.
anybody have any experience with this and/or instructions on how excatly to weld it
Thanks
Burke

I can't recommend doing this, if you're just looking for a short term fix until you can afford a Quaife, then just use a Phantom Grip. They wear out quickly, and don't do as good of a job as they claim to, but they do get the job done and don't do anything permanent to the differential. And if you do weld it, you would weld the spider gears.

If the car will be running on drag slicks ONLY (not daily driver) and all you'll be doing is driving around the paddock at a track then you should be ok. You won't be putting tons of power into the axles just moving around the track; and when you do you'll be going straight. The tires should be flexible enough to slip when you make low-speed turns.

Exactly. Get a Genuine Honda LSD, or a Quaife.

I believe its illegal to do at some tracks as well. I wouldn't recommend it, maybe only in a race car that goes in a straight line.

It is illegal at all race tracks. Welding the diff is extremely dangerous.

It is in every rule book out. Most tracks follow the NHRA standards for rules. Welding diffs can be dangerous becasue it will weaken the diff when you weld to it and if it ever gives parts and including the car can go pretty much anywhere.
