Default Weird CEL problem, please help!

OK, I have a 95 GSR with I/H/E, CTR cams, Si tranny w/Quaife, VAFC and stock ECU. It runs great 99% of the time. When i hold the RPMs over 5k for any period of time, i get a CEL and my rev limit drops to like 6.5k RPMs. It only does it when im at part throttle. Full throttle at long periods over 5k seem to cause no CEL. The biggest time i notice this is on the highway, since i cant go over about 90 without popping this CEL. I tried to pull the code, but it clears when i turn the key off. Please help!!

Try pulling the code before you turn the key off.

It may be ignition related. When was the last time distributor cap/rotor, were replaced. Check them for carbon tracks or cracks. With heat comes resistance.

Leave the engine running then.
