ok i got my car runnin after a few years of not running for a few days it had a really hard time starting when it was cold and when i drove it around and it got hot, it had no problem starting at all. but about a week ago it just stopped running all together. so i changed the dist cap, rotor, plugs, wires are pretty new and the cap was all corroded so i figured that was it but it wasnt.

so i tried to take a plug wire off the dist and hold it as close as i can and when it fires it gives like a orange spark, now wouldnt it give a white to blue spark ? do you think i should replace hte coil ? but i did the tests my chilton manual says for the coil and it does check out good.

coils could check good, and still be bad, though rare. is there any white on the coil casing? indicative of overtemping inside coil = bad. could be igniter too. if you have no spark, that is.

 

no theres not white on the coil, i got new spark plug wires and put them on today and tried to start it, when i pulled hte wires off it had white on the end of the wires

back from the dead because i am having the same problem currently.

i've tried 2 different brand new distributors (with all new internals), wires are new OEM, newer plugs, getting orange spark when plug wire is pulled and grounded to valve cover bolt. i'm thinking that my battery took a ****, but i'm also thinking that it shouldn't matter because i am getting the same problem while i have a battery charger hooked up.

any ideas??
