Default warped head

i have a d16y8. It was overheated before i got the car. i changed the hg and now it runs like ****. The idle is crazy and when its cold it gets coolant into the combustion chamber. I know this because when its cold it burn coolant but once warm it stops. I think the head is warped but i didnt check when i had the head off (dumb move). i used the same head bolts and im thinking about buying new head bolts and i hope this will help. I guess my ? is will the new bolts help??

doubt the bolts will do anything. double check your head and block for warpage.

you can reuse a head gasket if its not old...i don't recommend it but you can. Get studs, don't get bolts, head bolts are ****.

maybe your problem was the headgasket???? and resuing the headgasket is just as dumb as resuing the same headstuds

Your head is more then likely warped. Get a straight edge and check the surface of the head for warpage and minus well check the block deck once you've removed the head. You can reuse one of the newer head gaskets, but make sure you use some copper spray. I'm assuming you're re-torque your head studs to factory specs?

As quoted, no it will not help. You have a better chance of getting the head resurfaced & using the old head studs. But since you have new studs, use those.

I'm 99% sure it's your head. More then often an aluminum head will warp when the engine overheats.

do this: get the head resurfaced, get a new headgasket and use your new headstuds...make sure you torque the headstuds in the right pattern and correct amount of torque...this should minimize most of your probelms
