Want to buy a dyno.
I have been thinking for awhile, and want to buy my own dyno and have a decent setup in my workshop/garage for my house back in VA. What do you guys think?
What should I expect to spend?
What all would I need?
Should I get a dynapack or dynojet or just an engine dyno?
Give me some suggestions. You may think it may sounds stupid but I think it would be beneficial since I have an extra 3 bay garage seperate from the house that I use to build engines and will soon have a paint booth in.

Try checking out http://www.dynojet.com although i don't think they have prices...but at least you'll get an idea of what you'll need for your shop.
Good Luck!!!

I have already been to the websites. Right now I am looking at the dynojet 224X and the Dynapack series 2000 or 2500.

Give this guys a call http://www.land-and-sea.com. Great product and sales/tech staff.Engine dynos are great for product and hp development but are a lot of work for just testing customers engine.Expect a full day to get it up and running on an engine dyno. You will need all the fuel and ignition system to hook it up.You will also need a brake that will easily change over to work in the opposite direction.

So it would be better to get a chassis dyno over an engine dyno? This is why I was looking at Dynapack b/c there units are portable!
Chassis dyno is your best choice.Do NOT skimp on fans and air flow through the bay.Ask the dynapack sales guy for some of his customers names that have some good setups. Most people love to show off their setup.Just don't pick the ones close by.

One fact to consider would of course be building construction. typical slabs are 4-6", , and I am sure some consideration has to be made structurally to support the typical dyno
I like the Dynapack's as well because they can be moved out of the way if you need the extra room and easily stored in a corner of the room.
They also have energy-absorbing loading capability to measure power while doing steady-state tuning.
That's all I could think to ask of a dyno.

I know that is on consideration I take into mind when thinking about dynojet. I have concrete floors, but I'd have to check to see how thick the floor is and then I would have to make a pit to fit the rollers in.
I have emailed a couple of ppl who have dynos, at work and home, but have gotten no feedback. And I have searched but have found no costs of what it may take to have a good reliable setup.

I think the dynapack is a better set-up. Initial cost is gonna be more, but some of that extra is taken up when you consider the installation requirements of a permanent dyno-jet.
Try filling out one of their information request forms . . .
Just out of curiousity, you really have 30 grand to drop on a dyno for personal use?

No I dont have 30 grand, but I can spend $15,000 and $20,000. I am looking to do this next year when I get back to VA.
One guy I have talked to said he bought a used setup everything $10,000. And another guy told me he built his own for around $4000. I dont think I want to build my own.
I just found one on e-bay now, buy it now for $18,000. Also there is a mustang dyno buy it now for $3,300 for just the roller assembly!
Thats all I really need!

If you want to know the prices on the Dynojet models just email them. I emailed them a couple years ago and they were happy to send me a price sheet.

I did e-mail them but the only response I got was they are sending me a catalog. I'm going to call them both tomorrow b/c I get out of work early.

I bought a Dynojet 224x last year for $20k (plus I bought some options like a 4 post lift as well), and I have to say, I am completely disappointed in this thing. If it weren't for the horrible RPM pickup problems, and the customer service people not admitting that it is an inherent problem with their dyno's, it would be a good unit. I spend way too much time yelling at this thing.
For the money though, its hard to beat, a dynapack unit that can read up to 800hp or so is close to $70k..

Dynapack gave me a quote for the 2500 series, complete package.......$59,000. I cannot afford that out of pocket, but in a year and a half if I decide to open my own business, I will buy one, b/c there are no dynos in Roanoke, VA

I have been really interested in the dyno dynamics, but have no clue on pricing.. I asked for an information packet a few months back, and haven't received a damn thing..
I will probably sell my Dynojet in the coming year..
