Default VW Golf help...

2003 vw golf
4 cylinder

i know nothing about vw's. this is a co-worker's car. she is having what appears to be an electrical problem and i thought i'd ask you guys if you knew anything. i didn't know where to post this, so mods...feel free to move. thanks!

-the "temperature warning light"...i guess that's what it is, is flashing. the thermostat needle isn't jumping up to cautious levels however. the car also isn't overheating. the coolant is a little bit low, but not out or anything.

i thought maybe somebody here would maybe have an idea. my co-worker is worried about her new car. i'm thinking it's just an electrical problem, like a sensor or something because the car isn't overheating and the thermostat needle isn't above normal operating temp. also, some of the dash lights on the heater controls just went out about two days before this problem.

any insight would be great. she is taking it to the shop in a week, but i thought it would be good to at least get a little insight on what's going on first. thanks as usual guys!

Just a dumb guess...
European cars typically have the coolant reservoir pressurized, not like Hondas. I've heard of low-level sensors in the reservoir bottle getting flaky, so check that. Maybe that 'temperature' warning light is really a low coolant warning.

If it's happening along with flaky dash lights, maybe it's just a ground problem.

Isn't it under warranty??

VWs are notorious lately for having sensors go bad. Just replaced the coolant temp sensor in my GFs Golf.

Everything should be under warranty. Just take it in.
